Washington Heights
Neighborhood—New York City
The uppermost part of Manhattan, Washington Heights is filled with over 500 acres of parkland, which makes up over a third of the neighborhood’s total area. One of the best spots, Fort Tyron Park, is a pocket of nearly 70 acres of green in this historic neighborhood.
Other historic landmarks in this neighborhood include the medical school of Columbia University as well as Audubon Terrace, a collection of Beaux Arts and Renaissance buildings. This neighborhood is even home to Manhattan’s oldest surviving house - Morris-Jumel Mansion, which was headquartered by George Washington in 1776.
Washington Heights is home to the Little Dominican Republic and has a strong community feel.
